27 MILLION Americans On Anti-Depressants!

reuters has an article stating that since 1996 it was at 13 million and now it has skyrocketed.. have you ever been on these meds?

almost everyone i know has at one time or another... so far, not me yet..

You have to remember that anti-depressants are used for more than just depression. They use them for chronic pain, neuropathy, sleep disorders and smoking cessation, for a few examples.

I do think they are over prescribed for situational depression and especially for kids. They should be a last resort, not given out like candy.

They have helped many who truly need them.

What the Family Worship Evening Arrangement Really Entails

as most people here know the combined book study allows an evening for "family worship".. the co visits march - august 2009 is really focussing on this.

if a jdub family head doesn't do a full evening of family worship and uses this time to do recreational activities he is as guilty as isrealite who didn't use the sabbath for worship.

the result, will of course be same as the unfaithful isrealite, death!!!!!!!!!

I have watched some jws I know do their "family worship" evening. It took all of 20 min. and they were off to the mall.

I'm sure the accounts told to the elders and cos will be a tad different, kinda like the family study that most don't have.

What I see is a lessening of time spent on jw things and that's a good thing.

LOL @mkr. I don't know who has the right to rule. That phrase "right to rule", used so commonly by jws, just never did anything for me.

I always hoped God had the right and intelligence to solve things through the application of love.

The real purpose of the HLC is to make sure JW's take blood...

99% of jw's have no idea whats allowed and whats banned - too complex.. so most jw's tick the i accept nothing box.

this from an hlc member i spoke with some time back.

just to be on the 'safe' side, ironically.. anyway imagine the number of dead jw's there would be if this was allowed to run its course.. so imho part of the hlc raison d'etre is to make sure jw's take the blood fractions they are 'allowed'.. thoughts?.

Wasn't there something about giving HLC members access to your medical records on the forms the dubs fill out?

Most jws do not have a clue what is acceptable to the new jw rules. That is partially why they have the HLC. I do think they are there to prevent the no-nos of blood also.

It has gotten really difficult to distinguish an accepted blood treatment and one that's not accepted. You can actually store your blood loss during surgery and reinfuse it into your body afterwards.

I saw it done and could not distinguish it from a blood transfusion.

The quickbuild around here had a host of problems. It was built in 4 days. The workmanship was pretty shoddy. They have had the regional building committee do major repairs.

Maybe they need to slow down and make sure they know what they are doing.

i have struggled with this concept for quite some time.

i feel like the apostle paul in that he wishes to do right by god in controling this issue, but find it to be a law exercising complete control over him.

i find myself wondering what is the use in doing so?

The meetings and literature cause you to feel this way. You can never do enough or be good enough in the jw world.

Read some of Jesus" words. He didn't expect much from his followers.

Do/did you like to read Daily Text?

i hated it.

we actually never really did.. once, on vacations, we were with another family, they prepared food on the table for breakfast .... and then nobody could touch it for some 15 minutes, when daddy was reading daily text and asking childish questions ... family members were raising hands and answering .... we all were hungry... watching the food ... and hoping it will soon be over (i dont mean armageddon, i mean daily text...) i felt just like an idiot..... albert.

I didn't even like the forced praying when we ate. The daily text was torture. The only time I looked at it was on the way to the field circus so I could be a good dubbie and answer the questions.

We had some elders who would ask questions about the text and wanted answers before we pulled out the text book.
